Love for the weekend!

Happy weekend! Turkey burgers are on the menu for this weekend! Here's a clean turkey slider recipe! Have this with a side salad, sweet potato fries or asparagus! Cheers!

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 medium onion, grated, divided
  • 1 lb extra-lean ground turkey
  • 2 tbsp low-sodium tamari soy sauce
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp fresh ground black pepper
  • Olive oil cooking spray
  • 16 small whole-wheat or multigrain rolls, cut in half
  •  4 slices low-fat cheese, cut into quarters (optional)
  • 16 to 20 cherry tomatoes, cut in half
  • 16 small pieces lettuce
  • 4 slices low-fat cheese, cut into quarters, optional

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Set aside 2 tsp onion for homemade ketchup. In a large bowl, mix together remaining onion, turkey, soy sauce and spices. Form 16 little patties, about 2 inches in diameter, with clean, slightly damp hands. Place patties on a tray or plate.
  2. Heat nonstick or cast iron pan over medium-high heat for 1 minute. Mist pan with cooking spray; let heat for 1 more minute. Add patties and cook for about 2 to 3 minutes per side, or until juices run clear when pressed down with a spatula.
  3. To assemble sliders, place 1 patty on bottom half of a roll, top with 2 to 3 cherry tomato halves, 1 lettuce leaf and 1 piece cheese, if desired; then add top half of roll. Serve with 1 to 2 tsp Homemade Ketchup. Repeat with remaining patties and accompaniments. Enjoy.

Love for Sweet Cheeks baking company!

I was just watching last night's episode of Cupcake Wars so it inspired me to post about last week's winners! The winners of last week was Sweet Cheeks baking company out of San Diego, CA & they're the bakery that made our wedding cake! How fun is that? I was so stoked to see them win! And it was so ironic they just won because it was almost two year ago that they were delivering our cake to the ceremony :) what a fabulous day that was! Thanks Sweet Cheeks for providing an amazing cake for our special day!

This was me confirming we were going to be nice!
I guess there was some type of miscommunication here ;-)

Love for glowing skin!

This summer I have been out in the sun and at the pool a lot with kids so I was exploring a few ways to freshen up my skin! Found this recipe for a body scrub & thought I'd share! This is a great regular exfoliant as well! Along with drinking tons of water this will help my skin get it's glow back!

Ingredients
1/2 cup sea salt
1/2 cup sweet almond oil
(can substitute light olive oil or vegetable oil)
1/2 teaspoon lemon zest
1/2 teaspoon orange zest

Directions

In a medium dry bowl, combine all ingredients making sure to not let any water touch them as it will dissolve the salt. Pour mixture into an airtight container and store in a cool dry place.
To use: Just before showering, swirl ingredients together with your fingertips to mix. Clean body completely and just before getting out of the shower, apply Citrus Salt Body Scrub to body in a firm circular scrubbing motion with hands or a soft washcloth. Rinse off the mixture and pat body dry with a clean towel.

Love for Intervals!

This is my favorite workout if I'm in a hurry to fit something in at the gym! I usually pair this with weights/resistance training. Use this interval outside or on the beach during your vacay this summer :)

Interval Variation:
You alternate the same period of low intensity with the same period of higher intensity.

1. 3 - 5 minutes warmup (light jog, low intensity, gradually increasing at the end of the warmup period)

2. 1 minute moderate or high intensity followed by 1 minute low intensity (repeat 6 - 8 times)

3. 3 - 5 minutes cooldown (light jog, low intensity, gradually decreasing by the end of the cooldown period)
Total time: 30 Min

Love for bright ideas!

Here's a yummy recipe I saw on Designer Whey. These are perfect for those hot summer days (well every day here in SA). Variation in your daily serving of fresh fruit and a healthy alternative to popsicles for you or your kiddos! My favorite fruits to use are strawberries & blackberries! Switch it up with whichever fruits are your favorites.
